Introduction

Four nights in August bikepacking from Edinburgh to Portpatrick. I was keen to spend as much time as possible in Galloway Forest Park so planned for a rough couple of days at the start. Had my longest (100km) day on the bike to date. Pitched my tent on rocks using rocks and had my first tick encounter. All while enjoying beautiful warm west coast rain and doing some frog watching.

Waratah Quilt Test

For my first year of bikepacking/camping I’ve been rolling with just a fairly cheap/basic OneTigris quilt with some down boots/trousers/jacket. This setup has been great and served me well! I particularly like having things a bit modular (sometimes just ditching the quilt entirely and going with down gear). It does, however, start to show weakness once things start getting down past about 5°C so I’ve been on the lookout/search for something a bit more robust.

First Camping Trip

Introduction

After watching for a relatively wind-free day for literal months, it finally dropped enough to actually head out and do some testing with my camping gear. (In fairly cold weather)
